On the third day of Christmas, my craft brew love gave to me...
Molten "gobs" prepare to drop into the moulds.
Ever wondered how a glass bottle is made? Well, it all starts with molten glass heated to around 2800 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, through precisely timed processes, perfectly weighted amounts of molten glass - called “gobs” - are dropped into waiting moulds. There, a puff of air “inflates” the still glowing glass inside. The mould then separates, leaving a perfectly formed glass bottle behind. You’d immediately regret the decision to touch the bottle at this point, though; the new bottle has only “cooled” to 900-degrees at this point… Ouch.
