It is a well-known fact that New Glarus Brewing Company’s craft beer is only sold within the state of Wisconsin. But now, the 12 oz. glass bottles for its beer will also be made exclusively in the Badger State. Recently, New Glarus announced an agreement for its glass bottles to be produced by Ardagh Group’s Burlington, Wisconsin glass manufacturing facility — just 90 miles away from the brewery.
Founded in 1993 by Deb and Dan Carey, New Glarus has made the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing companies ten years in a row and, as of 2015, is the 20th largest craft brewery in the U.S. New Glarus produces about 215,000 barrels of beer each year and, at its peak in summer, goes through more than one million bottles a week — all while selling beer exclusively in Wisconsin.
BOB’s Top Three New Glarus Brews
Next time you’re in Wisconsin, BOB urges you to try one of New Glarus Brewing’s delicious year-round beers.
1. Spotted Cow
New Glarus is best known for its Spotted Cow. It’s rumored that Minnesotans smuggle kegs of it across the border! If you’re looking for something fun, fruity, and satisfying, this Wisconsin-exclusive farmhouse ale is the perfect starting point on the New Glarus roster.
2. Moon Man
Another fan favorite is Moon Man, a bold and engaging “No Coast” Pale Ale. With daring, fruity aromas and a balanced flavor, this sessionable beer proves great taste knows no coasts.
3. Wisconsin Belgian Red
Brewed with whole Montmorency cherries, Wisconsin-farmed wheat, and Belgian roasted barley, this beer is lagered in oak tanks and aged for a year. With over a pound of Door County cherries per bottle, Wisconsin Belgian Red delivers an intensely sweet, cherry-forward flavor that’s uniquely Wisconsin.
Seasonal Offerings
Depending on the time of year you visit Wisconsin, explore one of New Glarus’s seasonal releases — from Cabin Fever and Totally Naked to Staghorn Octoberfest and Fat Squirrel — there’s something for every beer lover.
BOB loves hearing success stories about craft breweries and supporting those who choose American-made glass. Next time you’re in the Badger State, stop by and grab a beer brewed and bottled locally in Wisconsin.
Cheers!
